Recorder Window

The Recorder Window is the main window of VoiceCrafter and is where most of the audio production work happens in a DAW-like, user-friendly interface.

Even though the looks resemble a traditional multi-track session, there’s one big difference. The tracks are not meant to be played together, but they are meant to be edited and recorded together.

Each track represents a single SoundWave asset, and within that asset, you can create new takes, change the active one and delete existing ones, as well as being able to view and edit information about the SoundWave and its takes.

Track Controls:

  • X: Close the current track, removing it from the opened Sound Waves in the UI.
  • TTS: Open the TTS Generator window in order to create the voices if dialog using Text-To-Speech.
  • Record: Start/Stop recording a new take for the current Sound Wave.
  • Play: Play/Stop playing back the currently selected take of the Sound Wave.
  • Take Selection: Select a new active take between the existing ones.
  • i: Display information about the currently selected take.
  • x: Delete the currently selected audio take.
  • Recording Name: Text Box used to rename the current SoundWave asset.

Track Display:

The track display shows the waveform of the currently selected Sound Wave.

It also displays an editable text block when you hover the mouse over the upper half. This text box displays the script text line corresponding to each particular Sound Wave, and can be edited right from there.

The script line is the text that is used to generate the takes using TTS, and also shows up as a reference when recording with the microphone.

Common Controls:

The common controls apply to all currently opened tracks.

  • Audio Device: The audio device (interface) to use for recording.
  • Audio Input: The input port to use from the selected audio device.
  • Sample Rate: The sample rate that will be used for the recording take.
  • Gain: A knob with the ability to perform a gain boost of up to 12 dB. But use it wisely, don’t get too close to clipping!
  • Audio Meter: A peak-meter to display the current input gain of the selected input.
  • Save: Save all Sound Waves that were modified.
  • Save & Rename: Display the Save & Rename dialog (below)

Save & Rename:

Save & Rename is a great time saver. It allows you to batch rename all opened SoundWaves based on a user-configurable naming scheme.

You can use up to 4 fields to create the name, and the system will automatically add an underscore between the ones being used.

Prefix: Add a fixed piece of text that will be added at the start of all names.

Body 1-2: Two different body fields. They can be one of the following options:

  • Recording Name: Use the field “File Name”, if imported from the Script.
  • Date: Use the current date in format YYYY-MM-DD.
  • Date + Time: Use the current date and time in format YYYY-MM-DD_HH-MM
  • Counter: Use a numeric counter.
  • Character: Use the character name, if imported from the script.

Suffix: Add a fixed piece of text that will be added at the end of all names.
